Remodeling homes is a very personal process. We’ll focus on your goals for the space, ensuring that the end product will meet your needs and align with your values.

Building community and renovating durable, beautiful spaces are what we do. Tenant improvement & light commercial projects allow us to do both, simultaneously. And, as foodies, when those projects are restaurants, we’re really on Cloud 9!
Over the years we’ve completed a diverse mix of commercial and tenant improvement projects, helping business owners design and build out restaurants, coffee shops, office spaces, yoga studios, and even a birth center! Each of these projects have presented interesting and unique challenges for our crew, in large part because commercial spaces have to be super-durable, highly functional, AND financially feasible.
Commercial projects test the robustness of materials and design. We can help guide the design process to ensure that the design meets the demands of your business. We are committed to using authentic, durable materials that can stand the test of time and have a depth of experience in selecting robust materials.
We believe that every project should be beautiful, but we also know that the primary focus of commercial spaces must be on building a functional space. Because of this, it’s important to establish your priorities for the space and share them with the team early. With these priorities in mind we can help guide the design process to ensure that the design meets the demands of your business. No one understand the needs of the space and how your business works more than you do, having this front of mind from the beginning is key.
We can tell you from experience that finding the right commercial space can be hard; we’ve been there! We’re happy to visit potential sites with you and provide some rough construction cost estimates. This is a great way to avoid investing more in a space than you can afford.
We use an integrated design process, which helps align budget and design early in the process. We consider it an essential part of a successful, low-stress project. This process allows the design team to collaborate from the start, giving us the opportunity to provide feedback on buildability and the cost implications of the design choices you make along the way.
Remodeling homes is a very personal process. During the design phase we focus on your goals for the space, ensuring that the end product will meet your needs and align with your values. Our scope of remodels includes kitchen remodels, full home remodels, and additions. We work with a handful of building designers and can help you find a building designer whose aesthetic and communication style aligns with yours.
Many of the homes we remodel are more than a century old. These homes have stories; beautiful, historic design details and quite often, very small kitchens! Remodeling homes, both old and new, is a way to honor the original craftsmanship of the home, while also ensuring that the home meets your needs.
The homes we remodel are more comfortable and use less energy than the average home. They also require fewer repairs, have healthier indoor air quality, and they are quieter. Our focus isn’t simply keeping your energy bills low, our focus is making your home so comfortable that you can walk around your home barefoot, year-round, without thinking about slippers. Our focus is the health of your family and safeguarding the indoor air quality of your home. This focus, when paired with durable materials and time-tested building techniques increase the durability of your home. That means you’ll have more time to spend with your family, skiing at Mt. Baker or riding at Galbraith, and less time contemplating home repairs.
Over the years, we’ve worked hard to assemble a crew of talented, proficient carpenters who, on occasion, have time to complete smaller, skilled carpentry projects such as replacing siding and rebuilding decks. Whereas we schedule larger projects with a firm timeline, we fit these smaller projects in as the calendar allows. Because of this, we do not take on projects of an urgent nature; we schedule skilled carpentry projects 6-12 months in advance.
In keeping with the ethos of our larger projects, our skilled carpentry projects focus on durability, occupant health and comfort. The short of it is this: if you want a skilled carpenter from Chuckanut Builders to complete your project and you’re not in a hurry, we’d be happy to help.
Maintaining the siding of your home isn’t nearly as exciting as, say, remodeling your kitchen or adding a second story addition, but it is an essential component that helps to ensure the durability of your home and protect your indoor air quality.
Bellingham gets roughly 35 inches of rain a year. That’s a lot of rain. And, as most homeowners in Bellingham know, rain is hard on the exterior of a home. Wind driven rain can get behind siding, causing mold and rot. In turn, this can lead to indoor air quality issues and impact the durability of a home. The best-case scenario is to catch water damage early and fix it quickly. That doesn’t always happen because water damage isn’t always immediately visible. Siding repair projects vary greatly in scope, from selectively replacing damaged siding or exterior trim to overhauling the whole exterior of the home (removing all of the siding, adding a weather resistive barrier and exterior insulation, and installing new siding).
Decks have a hard life in the Pacific Northwest, especially uncovered decks. If your deck is failing, we can help. Our carpenters use time-tested building techniques and high quality, durable materials to ensure your deck can better endure the elements. In addition to durability, we can suggest materials that are low maintenance because we know folks would rather spend time enjoying their deck than maintaining it.
